Leech Lake is big water, and that changes how you plan a shoot. Wind can pick up fast on the open lake, so we watch the forecast and aim for a calm morning. A resort or lake home on Walker Bay looks very different on flat water than it does in a chop.
Much of what sells around Walker is wooded: cabins tucked in pines, lots off Highway 200, acreage bordering the Chippewa National Forest. From the ground it's all trees. From above you can see the shoreline, the access roads and how much land is really there. Some land around the lake is National Forest or Leech Lake Band land, so we confirm where we can launch before the flight.
